Description
Britannia mechanical combination
All new Britannia wall safes come with a key lock to its safe door and supplied with 2 keys. However, at the point of sale you can opt to order the safe with a mechanical dial combination lock. This lock is used on security safes only.
This mechanical combination dial lock normally has 3 chosen numbers to dial in, E.G. 50-60-70, using a 4 x Left, 3 x Right, 2 x Left then a final Left turn until the dial drawers the bolt of the lock and stops. You can then open the safe door. It is supplied with a code change combination key to allow you to re-code the lock as often as you see fit. We recommend this be a yearly option, or sooner is several staff have access to the safe.
What is a Mechanical Combination Lock?
A mechanical combination lock is a type of lock that operates without a key, instead relying on a sequence of numbers or symbols (a combination) to open it. The lock typically uses rotating dials or wheels, which must be aligned in a specific order to release the locking mechanism. These locks are purely mechanical, meaning they do not require electricity or batteries to function. Because it is a mechanical lock, we do recommend it be serviced every 2/3 years. Service of the lock, ensures reliability for many years.
How Does It Work?
- Dial or Wheels: The user turns one or more dials to align the correct sequence.
- Internal Mechanism: Inside, a series of discs or cams are aligned when the correct combination is entered, allowing the lock to open.
- Reset Capability: Many mechanical combination locks allow users to set and reset their own combinations.
Common Uses of Mechanical Combination Locks
- Safes and Vaults: Protecting valuable items, money, and sensitive documents in homes and businesses.
- Padlocks: Securing lockers, gates, bicycles, and storage units without needing a key.
- Luggage: Providing quick and convenient security for travel bags and suitcases.
- File Cabinets: Protecting confidential files and paperwork in office settings.
- Gun Safes: Ensuring firearms are stored securely and accessible only to authorized users. Normally gun safe cabinets come with twin key locks. However, some local authorities will accept a mechanical combination lock and key lock to secure its door.
Advantages
- Keyless: No need to carry or worry about losing keys.
- Durability: Reliable and long-lasting since they don’t depend on electronic components.
- Tamper-Resistant: Many designs are resistant to picking and other unauthorized access methods. They can , however be manipulated/opened by specialist safe smithy engineers.
Limitations
- Combination Memory: Users must remember the combination to access the lock.
- Time-Consuming: Entering the combination can take longer than using a key. It’s all about practice and knowing how to ‘ dial in ‘ its numbers.
- Fixed Combination: Some locks have pre-set combinations that cannot be changed, limiting flexibility.
These locks are widely appreciated for their simplicity, durability, and effectiveness in securing personal and professional belongings and therefore, we ask you to contact us to discuss what type of combination lock you seek if the lock you want is not shown.
