OUR STORY
Within the Box and this web site www.safewithinthebox.co.uk was born out of a need to create an informative web site to cover every type of safe available within the UK. We don’t just put a bullet point, we expand this to a fuller description to allow you to understand what it is you are considering buying!
The styles of safe include:
‘Safes for the home’
Generally this type of safe falls under the lower cash ratings of £1000 to £5000 cash rated
‘Euro grade Safes‘ having a cash ratings of £6000 to a massive £150,000, these are generally classed as ‘Commercial’. but are increasingly being used in homes and businesses.
‘Under floor and Wall safes’ which are sometimes called Hidden safes.
The under floor safes are mainly embedded into the floor either in concrete or in the case of a Floorboard safe, fitted between the joists of a property.
Ratings for concrete fixed start from £2000 rated up to Euro grade 3 that has £35,000 cash rating. A floor board safe is generally a £1000 cash rated product.
Understanding cash ratings.
When it comes down to cash protection, the mantra is, the higher the cash rating, the stronger the box.
As you step up a euro grade cash rating the doors of each safe offer more protection:
E.G: The locks are harder to pick, there can be attached to the lock a wire with tension that if dislodged in a lock attack, can release the tension. At this point it would drop a steel rod into a solid steel block, thus stopping theft, or it may drop a locking pin into the handle mechanism. Again, its done its job!
Many of the older generation, high graded safes had a glass plate behind the lock with either one or several tension wires…. And you wonder why it is not cheap to have your safe professionally opened!
In addition to the last statement.
Many safes are designed from the onset with deflection plates around the door frame and safe body, where known attack points are. Handles are meant to shear off and today’s modern high security safes have pretty good barrier materials to deter or lengthen the time it takes to break into.
You will also find that many safe have solid fixed bolts on the hinge side of their doors. Its a common mistake to think that if the hinges are cut off a safe, the door falls off. This type of attack is always the opportunist who thinks this is the easy way in!
Fire safes:
Of course we show many other types of safe including Fire safes, but, at this point, you need to be very careful in what you choose, because a Fire safe is a generic term for any safe that has some fire protection for your contents.
E.G
Fire safe for paper, Fire safe for Digital media, Dual Fire Safe (Protection for Paper and digital media).
You must remember this fact: A fire safe is not a security safe, nor are all security safes, a fire safe! However, several Security safes do have fire safe properties for the protection of paper!
